To investigate the effect of sucrose concentration on osmosis in potato tissue. Hypothesis I expect potato cells to swell up in sucrose concentration of 0% as there would be more water coming in then coming out. Therefore the piece of potato will be firm (not very flexible) and have a bigger volume. I expect potato cells to be plasmolysed (therefore be more flexible) and have a smaller volume in a water concentration lower then 90% as there would more water coming out then coming in. In a concentration of 90% the piece of potato would stay the same as there would be the same amount of water coming in and coming out. Theory Osmosis is a special kind of diffusion. Diffusion is the spontaneous migration of substances from regions where their concentration is high to regions where their concentration is low. Diffusion is important in many life processes such as breathing...
