Biology Coursework Osmosis Aim: To investigate the affect of different concentrations of sugar solutions on potato cells. Method: We need to cut potato cylinders to an exact length (2cm) we will make three cylinders the exact same weight to 2dp. Dry the potato place in selected sugar solution for selected time limit (1hr) take out, dry and reweigh. We then workout the mass gain/decrease. Find out the average weight change. Repeat at different concentrations of sugar solution. Diagram/Equipment: Potato cylinders, cork borer, stopwatch, spatchela, beaker, range of sugar solutions (0.2, o.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 molars) I chose these solutions because they give suitable amounts of change as I found out in my preliminary work, balance, scalpel and petri dishes. Safety Precautions: Be careful not to cut yourself when using the scalpel it is very sharp. Preliminary work: Before conducting my official experiment we did some preliminary work. This helped us to find out what sugar solutions...
