Biology AT1: Investigating the effects of salt solution on potato cells by Ross Aylard Aim In this experiment I am going to try and find out how different levels of salt solution will change potato cell's mass. Hypothesis My prediction for this experiment is that there will be a larger mass in potato cells which have been in lower concentration salt solution. As the concentration of the salt solution increases the lower the mass there will be. I am basing this hypothesis on a process called osmosis. Osmosis is the diffusion of water molecules from an area of high water concentration to an area of lower water concentration through a partially permeable membrane. In my experiment the less concentrated salt solution will have a higher water concentration. This means that the water will fill the potato cell to become turgid.
