How the concentration of saltwater affects osmosis in potato cells From Table 1 you can see the cylinders have increased and water has gone into the potato cells at 0 m, but have decreased and gone from the potato cells into the solution at 0.2 m onwards so osmosis must stop between the two. Table 2 showing the percentage changed from the original and average percentages confirms this. I shall now draw a graph to see where between the points osmosis stops. Theory: From this I can see the isotonic solution is 0.09 moles. You can easily see that the top of the graph, up to the point marked "A" the solution is osmosing into the potato as it gets larger and the line is still above the 100% line, and from then on vice versa, so any solution below 0.09 m salt are hypotonic and above 0.09 m hypertonic to potato cells.
