Experiment To Investigate The Factors Affecting The Rate Of Osmosis Aim: To investigate a factor that may affect the rate of osmosis. Outline: I will weigh a potato cylinder and record the weight. Then I will put the potato cylinder in a test tube with a sugar solution for 10 minutes and then measure the potato again. Then I will change the concentration of the sugar solution, and conduct the experiment again and determine if by changing the concentration of the sugar solution, the rate of osmosis was affected. Osmosis is the net movement of water (or any solution) molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration across a semi-permeable membrane. This membrane may be a cell wall, which lets smaller molecules such as water through, but not bigger molecules like sugar through.
