Effect of Substrate Concentration on Catalase AIM: This is an experiment to examine how the concentration of the substrate Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) affects the rate of reaction of the enzyme Catalase. PREDICITION: I predict that as the substrate concentration increases the rate of reaction will also increase. At the beginning of the reaction there are lots of substrate molecules around, therefore more active sites can bind with them. This shows how the substrate bonds to the active site of the enzyme: After the substrate has bonded to the active site an enzyme-substrate complex is formed. The R groups of the amino acids of the active sites interact with the substrate. The substrates are then released as products and the enzyme remains unchanged and ready for the next substrate. Substrates match the active site but non-substrates do not. Also Different enzymes are used for each individual reaction in cells meaning they are very specific....
