An Investigation into Osmosis Introduction: During this piece of coursework I shall be investigating what it is that affects the rate of Osmosis within a liquid substance. Water molecules are in constant motion. The occurrence of Osmosis only happens when there is a net movement of water molecules through a partially permeable membrane from a region where the water is at a high concentration to a region where the water is at a low concentration. As molecules of water move they collide with the membrane and generate a state of pressure called WATER POTENTIAL. This is the pressure produced as water molecules move and hit the membrane in between the two liquid solutions. Regions of a high concentration of water molecules (a dilute solution) have a water potential of high measure; regions of a low concentration of water molecules (a concentrated solution such as saltwater) have a water potential of a low measure....
