Biology Coursework- Osmosis Background Information Osmosis is the diffusion of water molecules from a high concentration to a low concentration of water molecules across a semi- permeable membrane, We have previously done an experiment on osmosis called the model cell experiment, we used Visking Tubing as a partially permeable membrane. In one test tube the Visking Tubing was filled with sugar solution and the other test tube was filled with distilled with distilled water. The first test tube was filled with distilled water first and the second was filled with sugar solution. After leaving the tubing for 20 minutes we found that in test tube 1 the Visking Tubing got heavier and the Visking Tubing in test tube 2 got heavier. The reason for this is that in test tube 1 the water molecules outside were in a high concentration and were able to diffuse through the semi permeable membrane to a low concentration...
