Science Investigation Name: Christopher Phillips Candidate Number: An investigation to find the effect of different concentrations of sugar solutions on potato tissue. Introduction I will be investigating the effect of different concentrations of sugar solutions on potato tissue. I want to discover if osmosis will change the mass of a potato after the experiment. I will do this by using a range of solutions from distilled water, to a 2M solution. Osmosis is the passage of water molecules from a high concentration of water to a low concentration of water through a differentially permeable membrane. Osmosis is important in plant cells because water enters plants through osmosis. The cell membrane of a plant is a differentially permeable membrane. The cell sap inside the plant cell is a strong solution (low concentration of water) so water can pass into the cell by osmosis. Prediction and scientific explanation.
