David Norton 5th Year Biology Coursework An investigation to determine the cell sap concentration of potato tissue Apparatus: A potato, various glucose solutions, a cork borer (size 5), a scalpel, a cutting board, a ruler, a top-pan balance, several boiling tubes, a boiling tube rack. Method: Take a potato at least 6cm in length and, with a size 5 cork borer, cut out several tubes of potato (these must be from the same potato as cell sap strength may vary between potatoes) as long as possible. With a ruler, measure at least 5cm along each potato tube allowing the ends to be cut off and, with a scalpel, cut each tube to the same length. Record the lengths. Measure the mass of each tube on a top-pan balance and also record these masses.
