AN INVESTIGATION INTO POTATO CELL EQUILIBRIUM AIM The aim of this investigation is to determine the equilibrium point of potato cells. This can be achieved by discovering the molarity of a sucrose solution, where there is no eventual net movement of water molecules. BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE The point of this experiment is to discover the equilibrium point in potato cells. This is where there is equal movement of water molecules into and out of the cells, but no net movement. The cells are to be in a state in-between turgid (rigid) and flaccid (floppy). A turgid cell arises when there is more water concentration outside of the cell than there is inside the cell. This takes place if the cell is placed in a solution with a molarity of 0. This is because the solution has a higher concentration of water than the cell. The water moves into the cell by osmosis and pressure...
