Why has surgery developed in recent years? The 20th Century saw a rapid advance in the field of surgery. This, in part, was because of the two world wars that required intense medical aid, which drove doctors to develop more efficient remedies and improve standards. An example of this is penicillin, as during the Second World War it was mass produced and greatly reduced the risk of infection during surgery. Therefore, we can say that WAR has helped the development of surgery. The public is very interested in life-saving operations because they often seem like miracles. Therefore, when surgeons perform awesome operations the media likes to publicize it heavily. This is because the public are fascinated by it.
