Every time the heart beats it pushes a 'surge' of blood down your arteries. You can feel this surge of blood as a pulse. Your pulse rate is the number of pulses you can count in one whole minute. Your pulse rate tells you how frequently your heart is beating. You can take someone's pulse by putting your fingertips against a pulse point and counting the pulses for one minute. In the experiment I will be counting for 15 secs, because otherwise the pulse will be back to normal by the time you start to exercise again.
