Respiration Coursework By Laura Hitchinson Aim: To examine the link between the rate of respiration and the amount of exercise done by exercising vigorously and recording pulse rate. Introduction: In order to function the body needs energy. Everything we do from sleeping to sport uses up energy. We create this energy through respiration. There are two types of respiration, anaerobic and aerobic. In aerobic respiration oxygen is used but in anaerobic respiration none is used. In this experiment we will be looking at aerobic respiration because the exercise is not very strenuous and anaerobic respiration won't be needed because anaerobic respiration only kicks in when aerobic respiration is not providing enough energy to keep the body going. The formula for aerobic respiration is: Glucose + oxygen -- Carbon Dioxide + Water + Energy The chemical formula is: C H O 6O -- 6H O + 6CO This reaction happens in every cell in the body.
