Assignment 3: The cardiovascular and respiratory system Task 1 The cardiovascular system (CV) is the process of taking food, hormones, metabolic waste and gasses to and from cells in the body. It consists of the heart, blood vessels and blood. The cardiovascular system is responsible for carrying blood around the body so that exchanges can take place. The cardiovascular system is divided into two separate parts, which both have a different function. Pulmonary CV system- This system is responsible for providing the blood with oxygen. Firstly, deoxygenated blood is pumped out of the heart, through the pulmonary artery. From here, it travels to the lungs. As it enters the lungs it is split into many, much smaller capillaries, which pass by the alveoli in the lungs. It is here where the gas and waste exchange takes place. Carbon dioxide and water from the deoxygenated blood is exchanged with oxygen from the alveoli....
