It causes the flow of blood, which is essential to life and if there is even a minor problem in the heart, there can be severe repercussions for the patient. Blood is needed as it contains oxygen, as well as other important nutrients, hormones and white blood cells for the bodies defence mechanism. It is a mixture of cells and plasma. Blood also contains platelets, which can be used for clotting. The heart plays a central role in the circulatory system and adjusts itself to the level of oxygen needed , which depends on the level of activity being carried out.
