The respiratory system includes the lungs, the trachea, the nose and the mouth. The main part of this system, which I will concentrate on, is the lungs. The lungs are the main part of the respiratory system as this is where air is moved in and out of to allow the body to absorb oxygen and give out carbon dioxide. Anatomy of the Lungs Function of the Lungs The respiratory system works along side the cardiovascular system to make sure every cell in the body has a supply of oxygen. In the lungs is mucus that protects the internal surfaces but if this gets too thick then the mucus will fail to do its job correctly and becomes sticky. This makes it difficult to move and therefore it clogs up the small tubes and can act as a reservoir for infection. The lungs are where air is taken in and breathed out again. Lungs...
