Investigating Pulse Rate To change the pulse rate I have decided to use exercise because it doesn't take a long period of time to alter and is easily controlled. The exercise chosen to change the subjects pulse rate is step-ups because they are easy to repeat and the rate can be controlled easily. The pulse is when the arteries expand to take to take blood and then contract and bounce back to force blood along. This can be felt when an artery goes over a bone. The pulse rate is how many times this happens over a certain period of time (usually a minute) Prediction I predict that with exercise, the pulse rate will increase as the exercise increases because to do the exercise the muscle cells need to contract and relax, and to do this the muscle cells need energy from respiration (see formula below).
