Background Information - A pulse is a pressure wave of the blood in the arteries, which corresponds to each contraction of the left ventricle of the heart. It can be felt in any artery that lies near the surface of the body and passes over a bone. The pulse is affected if you become ill, it depends on what illness you have as to whether it increases or decreases. Many people who have Emphysema, Lung and Trachea problems Etc, have lower pulse rates, as less oxygen can get into the body and results in the heart slowing down.
