The Renaissance Describe the main developments in the Medical Renaissance. The Renaissance was a time of rebirth and revival from the dark ages of the medieval period. There are three main characters which made very important medical developments in this time. Andreas Vesalius is one of these people. By dissecting human bodies, Vesalius proved many of Galen's previous ideas wrong, a very important stage as Galen's ideas were regarded to be completely accurate before. For example, where Galen had looked at animal bodies and came up with the conclusion that the human jawbone is made up of two pieces, Vesalius actually looked at a human and disproved Galen showing that there was just one bone in a human jaw. This discovery and others like it suggested to people that not all of Galen's work was correct, and people were encouraged to investigate further, and not to just accept Galen's work blindly.
