An investigation to show how exercise affects the heart-rate. Aim: to find out whether your heart rate increases whilst doing exercise. Background information: The pulse rate indicates how hard your heart is working at any given time. Your heart is a muscle that pumps blood around the body. The blood carries with it lots of things that your body needs to survive. It is especially important for carrying oxygen to all parts of the body. Oxygen is needed when your muscles do work. It is needed to burn up food to produce energy. When you are resting your body still needs energy for your muscles to move and to keep you at a constant temperature. Your diaphragm moves up and down your chest in and out, your heart needs a constant supply of energy to keep pumping blood round your body even when you are asleep.
