YOU NEVER MISS THE WATER UNTIL IT'S GONE The word "Famine" is described in Chamber's dictionary as "the extreme general scarcity of food". We, who are luckily part of the privileged fraction of Kenya's population who not been affected by this catastrophe. Drought and famine have plagued this country for two years now, with no signs of relenting. Northern Kenya is the region where this adversity has settled. As a concerned citizen, I should tell you about the calamities befalling my fellow civilians upstate. The lack of consistent rainfall and the ineffective and poorly managed aid effort has been a source of disappointment for the people. Deforestation in water catchment areas is a common cause of famine. Trees help to hold water on bare lands and even help soil to absorb water which further fertilises the soil.
