There are many conflicts generated by the demand for water in rural areas since it is a precious resource, which everyone needs to survive and also for agricultural activities. An example of this is the Attaturk dam in Turkey on the river Euphrates. The river Euphrates flows through Syria and Iran, the Attaturk dam is part of a GAP project, which is helping the water supply and irrigation for agriculture and human survival in South East Turkey. The purpose of this dam is to produce hydroelectric power and using water for irrigation. There were 60,000 people who lost their homes in the flooding of the area for the reservoir and the government provided no compensation for anyone.
