What can affect the rate of entry of water into cells? Aim To investigate what can affect the rate of entry of water into potato cells by Osmosis. Osmosis is the passage of water from a region of high water concentration through a semi-permeable membrane to a region of low water concentration. Variables The variables in this investigation are mass of the potato chip, amount of time the chips are left in the water for, surface area of potato chip, concentration of the water, temperature of the water and how much water the chips are put into. Mass I think the bigger the mass; the quicker water will be absorbed into the cell Time I think that as the chips are left in the water, they will diffuse more and more water until the concentration on the outside of the cell is weaker. Then I think the water will begin to diffuse back out until an even concentration...
