Kevin Fan 11A What are the best conditions for the germination of green beans? Aim: To plan and find out the optimal amount of water required to germinate green beans. Equipment: a) 4 Petri dishes b) Cotton Wool (as much as needed to entirely cover bottom of Petri dish) c) Water (for Petri dishes; 1 with none (control), 1 with 5ml, 1 with 10ml and 1 with 15ml) d) 12 green beans (3 beans per Petri dish) e) Ruler (For measuring length of root after germination) f) Cellophane tape (for sealing Petri dish, keeping internal conditions constant) g) Labels (identifying which Petri dish was which) Diagram: Dependant variable: Length of root (measured) Independent variable: Amount of water (0ml, 5ml, 10ml, 15ml) Controlled variables: Light intensity + wavelength (All four Petri dishes will be left at the window), temperature (room temperature, ~25oC), carbon dioxide levels (Petri dish is sealed), number of seeds (3 seeds per Petri dish) I will observe and measure: The length of the...
