BIOLOGY EXPERIMENT OSMOSIS AIM To investigate the effect of osmosis on potato when put in different concentrations of sugar solution. INTRODUCTION: Osmosis is a special type of diffusion of water molecules through a semi permeable membrane usually occurring in living organisms .It occurs both in plant and animal cells. The only difference being that plant cells have larger vacuoles and cell walls due to which they do not burst , whereas animal cells do burst due to excess water intake , and the plant cells become TURGID.( firm and rigid) , whereas if there is a water loss it becomes FLACCID OR PLASMOLYSED ( shrinking) a well watered plant has turgid cells. It occurs when there is a water potential difference and it moves through a semi permeable membrane from a high water potential to a low water potential.
