Biology Coursework 2 - Investigating the factors affecting photosynthesis Introduction For my biology coursework, I will be investigation the factors affecting photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants and certain other organisms use the energy of light to convert carbon dioxide and water into the simple sugar glucose. In so doing, photosynthesis provides the basic energy source for virtually all organisms. An extremely important byproduct of photosynthesis is oxygen, on which most organisms depend. For photosynthesis to occur, the photolysis of water must also occur. This is where the plant breaks down the water into oxygen and hydrogen ions. The oxygen is then released into the air. The hydrogen ions then react with the carbon dioxide to form glucose. The equation for photosynthesis is: 6CO2 + 6H2O C6H12O6 + 6O2 The equation for photolysis is: 2H2O 4H + O2 Variables The three possible independent variables that could be used in this experiment are: *...
