Caravaggio (Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio) - (8 September 1571 - 18 July 1610) was an Italian artist active in Rome, Naples, Malta and Sicily between 1593 and 1610. He is very famous for his visual depictions of crucial religions figures such as 'Jesus Christ', including the painting 'Supper at Emmaus', these were the source of much controversy. He is one of the very first artists whom used the concept of foreshortening and chiaroscuro into their paintings. One great example of this is Supper at Emmaus. Line One of the most prominent aspects of the piece is the use of line. The most prominent straight lines are that of the edge of the table and the side of the chair, they create a place for and individual to set their eyes, therefore leading them to look at the rest of the painting.
