Acanthus Spinossimus by Joan Charnley The painting of the "Acanthus Spinossimus" is in watercolour on paper. Joan Charnley was born in Hightown near Formby and attended the Manchester Regional College of Art and textiles. She is best known as a botanical artist, designer, lecturer and plants woman. The painting is very detailed and extremely realistic. When you get close to the painting, you can see how each petal has been painted individually and with great amount of accuracy. The colours used range from a striking deep purple to a pale subtle green. Many tones and shades have been used to achieve this beautiful painting. The leaves are very eye catching and appear that if u touched them they would be spiky. The texture used and the light and dark areas of shade achieve this.
