... Claims that the United Kingdom is now a secular society are wrong. Both religious activities and religious beliefs are flourishing. To what extent do sociological arguments and evidence support this view? A secular society refers to anything that is not religious or the idea of opposing to religion. Nowadays, religious ideas and practices are less pressurising on society and its practice is becoming less unseen to religious practitioners. According to Dalai Lama, "Secularism does not mean rejection of all religions. It means respect for all religions and human beings including non-believers". However, non-practitioners do not share the same thoughts as they believe that religion is a way of perceiving life in a non- spiritual way. For them, religion is not as centred in their lives as a religious practitioner. Dalai Lama's view here helps to investigate the positive and negative aspects on a secular society.
