... Question 2 Oliver Latham The drama series: 'Foyles War' describes the happenings in a seaside town during the Second World War focusing particularly on local crime. The detective featured deals with a number of different cases including murder, looting and spying. The series was written by Anthony Horowitz in 2002 before being broadcasted in 2003. It is set in Hastings, September 1940: at the beginning of the war. Horowitz once said 'every character, every weapon and almost every incident is based upon historical fact' and this is supported by the fact that detailed research into wartime crime had been undertaken by Mr. Horowitz himself before writing the programme. This particular episode focuses primarily on the subject of looting during bomb raids by the AFS or Auxiliary Fire Service. We know this to be true from court records of the time and descriptions of a type of 'Black
