BAHAMAS the impact of crime on businesses has a doubly perverse spin-off effect on the social and economic well-being of society according to Dr. Evaneth McPhee. McPhee said that crime could mean loss of income for employees, or even result in minimal employment. Crime also impacts sectors of the economy which results in consumers having to dig deeper into their pockets or face paying higher taxes. One such industry that was pointed out is health care. "There's always an increase to the attendance because of crime and there is an increase in health care cost, as well as an increased social sector cost," McPhee explained. International studies have also concluded that violent crimes have an impact upon the overall economy because injured employees lose working days, which could mean millions of dollars of lost productivity.
