Moore was asked by local councils to help with crime reports so used this study in an attempt to prove how complex it can be, and to show how results can differ in reality. He aimed to research defiance and 'hanging around' in order to prove what the facts may be when creating research. Moore studied youth and residents within three villages in Cambridgeshire over a period of six months. Two different research methods were used; unstructured interviews and participant observation.
