Assess the extent to which subcultural theories remain useful in explaining the level and nature of juvenile crime in the UK today. In the UK the age group with the highest offending rates is 18- 21 year old men there are many theories to explain why this is. Status frustration is one of these theories the men in age range of 18 - 21 are inbetween child status and adult status they are no longer allowed to act as children but don't have the full responsibility of adults. The lack of responabity leads to a lack of status and this may lead to acts of delinquency. Another explanation for the high crime rate in 18-21 males is the subculture theory, a subculture is a small culture held by a group of people whose norm and values differ from the dominant society but also has aspects in common.
