A02 Explain How Jewish Teaching And Practice Reflects The Importance Of Family. In Judaism, there are many reasons to have a family and in Jewish society family is very important. Jewish teaching shows that family is important from the very start of the Torah, Genesis 1:28 says: "Be fruitful and multiply." which is the first Mitzvot. This shows that God wanted the Jewish people to fill the earth and to have children. Marriage is viewed as the most important part of Jewish society as it means that people can have sex and reproduce, and there is no use for celibacy in Jewish culture and there is no Hebrew word for bachelor. Genesis 2:18 says: "It is not good for the man to be alone." which shows that God wants Jews to have companions and not to live alone - another reason to have a family.
