Identify the two main sources of authority other tan the Qur'an (20 marks) Two other sources of authority other than the Qur'an is the Hadith and the Sunnah. The Hadith is the second source of guidance and was originally transmitted by word of mouth. The Hadith are the sayings and comments on the Qur'an by the Prophet Mohammad. They are a source of guidance for Muslims as they look to Mohammad because he was the 'Seal of the Prophets' so therefore believe he must be the final example of how a true Muslim should live. The Qur'an gives general rules where as the Hadith give specific details on practice and behaviour through life it is also a basis for the Shariah, the Islamic Law for Muslims.
