Indian Religious world view Dr. Sue Hamilton Omar Campbell What exactly is Hinduism? Hinduism is a major world religion that originated in India in about 1500 CE. At present over 700 million people worldwide are Hindus. As with most religions, Hinduism consists of a lot of characteristics such as beliefs, practices, gods and writings. It would therefore be impossible for me to include everything about it. So in this essay I aim to give the reader an overall understanding of Hinduism. To achieve this I plan to concentrate on three of the most important aspects of Hinduism and show how they all each relate to each other to function as a whole religion for Hindus on a daily basis.
