Salvation Army - Sec A What are the origins of the Salvation Army and explain its development? The Salvation Army is an international movement, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. It originated in 1865 in London with the work of William Booth. Originally called Christian Revival Association, it was renamed the East London Christian Mission in 1870 and from 1878 has been known as the Salvation Army, Now a worldwide organization. It has military titles for its officials, is renowned for its brass bands and its weekly journal called the 'War cry'. The Salvation Army's message is based on the Bible. The Salvation Army's ministry is motivated by love for God. Finally the Salvation Army's mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus and meet human needs in His name, without discrimination.
