GCSE Religion Coursework Assignment 2 - Missionary Life Q1. Explain what two groups of missionaries do in specific parts of the world. There are many missionary orders and societies in the world today from the Augustinians to the Redemptorists , from the Jesuits to the Franciscans. However, I will be looking at the history and work of two missionary orders in particular; The Columbans and the Comboni Fathers. Columbans This Society of missionaries was founded in Ireland in 1916 by Edward Galvin and John Blowick. This group was named after the great missionary, St Columban who was born in Leinster in 543.
