An individual can be stopped by a police officer; or a police community support officer; a police community support officer must however be in uniform. A police officer does not have to be in uniform, but if they are not wearing uniform they must show you their identity card. An individual must not be stopped because of their age, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion or faith, the way they look or dress, the language they speak, or because they have committed a crime in the past. The police should treat individuals fairly and with respect. If they unhappy with how the police treated them, individuals can complain.
