Discuss how cultural and methodological considerations affect the interpretation of conformity research. Conformity is defined as 'a change in belief or behaviour in response to real or imagined group pressure when there is no direct request to comply with the group nor any reason to justify the behaviour change' (Zimbardo & Leippe 1991). It the group pressure which is important as it does not matter what kind of group it is so long as it is seen as being important or influential to a person at a given period time. A lot of research has been done to try and understand the situations individuals need to be in to conform and the factors affecting conformity. However there are various cultural and methodological considerations that affect the understanding of conformity research.
