Dan Timmins 03/11/02 To what extent does research (theories and / or Studies) show a relationship between stress and physical illness? Although commonly accepted, there is little evidence for a direct link between the stress of life events and physical illness; many psychologists have made connections between stress and illness. One of these psychologists is named Cohen Et Al. And in 1991 he carried out a study in which the participants were given nasal drops with cold viruses in them, the researchers involved in the project measured the stress level of the participants by recording the number of life changes a participant had experienced recently and the extent which the felt that they couldn't cope. He then found that the people who had the highest levels of stress had nearly double the chance to develop colds than the people with low levels of stress.
