Kate Allen Physiological Approach a) The study by Schachter and Singer investigates emotions. It tests the two-factor theory of emotion which suggests that emotion comes from a combination of a state of arousal and a cognition that makes best sense of the situation a person is in, i.e. when people become aroused they look for cues as to why they feels the way they do. The results support this theory, which indicates that the experience of emotions stems from physiological changes, for example an increased heart rate. Dement and Kleitman's study investigates what happens when we sleep. It explores the link between dreaming and REM (rapid eye movement). Results show a link between REM and dream recall, and also suggest that the direction of eye movement is connected to the content of the dream.
