In May of 1915 London city was bombed for the very first time. People who thought that the nearest bombing was that on the western front and that they were safe in their own homes were in for a big shock. From then until the end of the First World War 1400 civilians were killed in just over 100 air raids. This was when Britain got its first taste of bombs and air raids. To look back on these air raids this probably would have influenced the government's decision to employ evacuation in Britain.
