Using experimental evidence, compare the 'replacement' and 'coexistence' models of the development of magical thinking across life span Magical thinking is a concept familiar to everyone, however; many are unaware of its presence or its effect on people's perception of the world and others around them. This method of creating a magical explanation to explain things we don't understand begins in early childhood around the age of two or three when children first begin to speak. The definition of magical thinking, according to Keinan (1994) is "any explanation of behaviour or experience that contradicts the laws of nature...usually referring to powers, principles or entities that lack empirical evidence or scientific foundation" (Keinan, 1994, p48). Two main models attempt to explain the development of magical thinking in childhood and across life span; the replacement model and the coexistence model.
