To what extent are the traditional attitudes and values of Chinese society part of Adeline's life as she was growing up? How important does the writer eventually consider these to be? The traditional values and attitudes of Chinese society did play an important part in Adeline's life, even though at times she wished to ignore these traditional values, she would not have had the same up bringing as she did without them. Therefore she would not have been able to have the same inspirations as she was given while growing up. Without these inspirations she might not have been able to write a book about her childhood in the same successful way that she did. I also believe the book would not have been as effective if it weren't for Chinese traditional values playing an important part in Adeline's life.
