This essay will discuss the two short stories by D.H Lawrence; 'Adolf & Rex', both are similar in the sense that they focus upon families with children who introduce into there environment an animal, one a wild rabbit the other a dog. The stories each show progressive relationships between the animals and the humans. The first story I read, 'Adolf' was a story about the relationship and respect between a wild rabbit and a family, containing a father, a mother and children. At the start of the story the father comes in one morning from his nightshift in springtime. He brings with him a small, even tiny baby rabbit later christened Adolf. The children react gaily to the rabbit's arrival yet the mother was quick to state; "It's a wild one!" this is said with haste, immediately showing the mothers discomfort of being around wild animals.
