The Anonymous Misery of Third World Children As a society of over consumers we turn a blind eye to child labour practices in developing countries. We can appose child labour by educating ourselves, buying smart and boycotting large corporations guilty of child labour. Stores who are rumored to use sweatshops are Wal-Mart, Nike, and Bloomingdales. These are all American companies. Bloomingdales is a popular and thriving American company where "the luscious glowing colors of carpets fetch prices in the thousands". If you continue to read Landsbergs essay, you will be disheartened to know that Indian and Moroccan weavers earn just pennies an hour to make the beautiful carpets. As educated consumers, we should learn to buy smart, and apply what we have learned when we shop for clothing and other household items. If we buy only Canadian made, we have a better assurance it didn't come from a sweatshop. Items...
