Drama Coursework - Essay on Shockheaded Peter Poem Heinrich Hoffman was a German man from Frankfurt who lived in the mid 1800's. Heinrich was a "medical man of the lunatic asylum", who wrote and illustrated many children's poems. They were known as "The Struwwelpeter". The story of the poem we are using as basis is about a little boy who defies his mother by sucking his thumb. As a result, a great tall tailor comes along and cuts his thumbs off. The underlying theme in all of Hoffman's poems was that if you (children) didn't obey their parents, something bad will happen. We introduced our play with 2 monologues from the characters point of view. We also had a trailer for our play.
