Explain the measures adopted by the governments since 1997 to support the family? The Labour Party believes that families are at the heart of our society and the basis of our future as a country. That is why this Government is so committed to strengthening family life. Nevertheless they are under stress, and although most families do not want interference, they do want advice and support to be there when they need it. The Labour Party family policy is based on three simple principles: * Children must come first.
